Breast self-exams are an important part of a woman’s health and shouldn’t be taken lightly. “40% of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump,” according to John Hopkins Medical center. All adult women are encouraged to perform breast self-exams at least once a month.

Breast self-exams can help women know what is normal for them so they can report any changes to their healthcare provider. In addition, mammograms are recommended for women ages 40 and up, every 1-2 years.

Prevention is important. Here in our community Freeman and KSN-TV 16 have teamed up to educate women about breast health and remind them to do monthly breast self-examinations.
