Cheryl A. Fogarty, MD graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1999. She then completed a four-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. While attending Creighton, she could hear God’s call to serve. While Haiti was long in the back of her mind, the earthquake in July 2010 brought that desire to serve to the forefront. After traveling with Forest Park Baptist Church from her hometown of Joplin, Missouri she realized that half her heart lives in Haiti. She now returns every few months to help mothers and children. The mission has since expanded to teach these beautiful Haitian people how to sustainably care for one another.
Still in Haiti today, 1 out of 10 mothers will die in childbirth. Without access to medical attention 50% of these beautiful children will die before the age of 2. As the situation in Haiti is still dire, and these statistics simply unacceptable, Labor of Love is answering the need with financial, strategic and a sustainable plan to help their medical professionals provide basic maternal and child services. Labor of Love currently serves a population with 200,000 beautiful Haitians needing maternal and child services and has 3 midwives and a part-time OBGyn on staff. The real need is for an expansion of the maternity facility to include an operating room, pre-op area and recovery room. Visit laboroflove.org today to learn more.
